THE NOW MAKES THE FUTURE
THE
NOW MAKES THE FUTURE
We are in the midst of July. This is the time
of year that families enjoy the fruit of all that winter planning for
the trips of summer. Alice, a friend, made an observation this week that
rings true. "What would it be like to have as much excitement about
Heaven as we all do for a trip to Disney World? The pre-planning, the
thoughtful packing, the research - all for Heaven which is way cooler
than Disney. Imagine."
Yes, imagine. Heaven is "way cooler", and it
sounds refreshingly inviting over the heat of this stifling summer. But
seriously just consider the truth of this statement. We spend our lives
planning for temporal excitement. The trip. The purchase. The event.
Then through the years we miss the "pre-planning, the thoughtful
packing, the research" for the greatest excitement to come - the event
at the end of our earthly existence. The greatest joy of HEAVEN.
Brother
Bill has been teaching on Wednesday nights on generational blessings
and curses. Remember that the soul of man never dies. So in the end of
our earthly existence we either reap the rewards of Heaven or suffer the
consequences of hell. The greatest generational blessing that we can
pass on in our families is the promise of Heaven. Our lives need to
speak of the planning for heaven by living for Him now on earth. Every
decision we make should focus on this promise. Every act should reflect
this truth. We should be as excited about Heaven as we are about the
Disney Worlds in this temporal existence. The temporal determines what
the eternal will be. In this life we choose blessing or curse. We choose
life or death. "Now choose life, so that you and your children may
live," God declares (Deuteronomy 30:19b). The "pre-planning" for the
greatest trip of all takes place now. It affects our children, and what
we pass on to future generations.
"We fix our eyes not on what
is seen," Paul writes, "but on what is unseen. For what is seen is
temporary, but what is unseen is eternal" (2 Corinthians 4:18).
